The "M" rating didn't pre-date "R." Both were there from the beginning of the MPAA rating system ("G", "M", "R", "X"). "M" was later changed to "GP" and ultimately to "PG."
Super-groovy article! Nice work, McBeardo!

@BothWays:

If McBeardo wrote this article, then it should be HIS name as the author, not Skin Central. I mean, give credit where credit is due, right?

Good catch, Speedo. I fouled up on that detail, and have since fixed it, thanks to your eagle eye and heady knowledge of movie history.

Natalie Wood should've placed first, only because she's always been a favorite legend of mine. Uschi Digard is right at home in second, but all the rest I'll have to catch up with, because I'm not all that familiar with these nude scenes from '69. Thanks guys for giving me "new" stuff to check out.

"Midnight Cowboy" is a classic controversial masterpiece of movie-making and story-telling and it's loaded with great nudity from Jennifer Salt and Sylvia Miles. By the way, Brenda Vaccaro doesn't "almost subliminally flashes breasts," she DOES flash breasts during her sex scene with Jon Voight immediately following the party.
EASY RIDER - hip and hep at the time - is hopelessly dated now but that nude scene does hold up. MIDNIGHT COWBOY still packs a punch even though it would barely merit an R these days. How times have changed.
