Trailers from Hell, the movie-review site founded by The Howling (1981) director Joe Dante, is the next best thing to sitting down with your favorite director and talking about movies. So why haven't more people heard of it?
Since the site launched in 2007, Dante and his "grindhouse gurus" have provided insight on over 750 classic movie trailers, including quite a few titles from the Mr. Skin Nudity Hall of Fame.
Each trailer is presented with commentary from industry pros who were involved in the movie (like Roger Corman's story about being sued by the Hell's Angels over his 1966 biker flick The Wild Angels) or are just big fans (like The People Vs. Larry Flynt writer Larry Karaszewski revealing what those coprophiliacs were really eating in Salo- turns out it was a combination of Swiss chocolate, broken biscuits, and marmalade).
But shooting, editing, and hosting hundreds of online videos ain't free, and so Dante & Co. are now asking the public to chip in with a Kickstarter campaign that's looking to raise $30,000 to produce more trailers and promote the site:
They've got some truly unique donor prizes, including signed merchandise, original film props, and, for $5,000, a script consultation from A History of Violence screenwriter Josh Olson (who famously wrote an essay called I Will Not Read Your Fucking Script in 2009), so check out the Trailers from Hell Kickstarter page and get to donatin', film fans!
