Back to School (1986)

The uproarious box office smash Back to School (1986) holds the distinction of being a teen sex comedy featuring a leading man who is 65-years-old via Rodney Dangerfield! In fact, the “I don’t get no respect” comic scored great marks for his starring part. At the time of the movie’s release, Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote, “This is exactly the sort of plot [Groucho] Marx or [W.C.] Fields could have appeared in. Dangerfield brings it something they might also have brought along: a certain pathos.” A review in the Los Angeles Times echoed the praise, stating, “Dangerfield seems to be setting the film’s brisk pace and flawless timing himself.” The romp kicks off when a successful, self-made businessman named Thornton Melon (Dangerfield) decides to get his degree at the same university where his nerdy son Jason (Keith Gordon) goes. With help from this Big Daddy, bookworms learn to party, partiers learn to study, and all the high points of a college comedy are hit. Among the cast of characters are Vanessa Melon (Adrienne Barbeau), Dr. Diane Turner (Sally Kellerman), Valerie Desmond (Terry Farrell), Derek Lutz (Robert Downey Jr.), and the Dean Martin (Ned Beatty). If that’s not entertaining enough, author Kurt Vonnegut, comedian Sam Kinison, composer Danny Elfman, and the New Wave band Oingo Boingo all make guest appearances. But, as everyone knows, the best appearances are breast appearances. And thanks to a busty blonde coed (Leslie Huntly), we get to see nude boobs in the shower. Great student body!
