What happens when the depraved genius behind films including Nice to Meet You, Please Don’t - Me! (1996) teams up with one of Japan’s most notorious producers of “pink movies”? The answer is Tokyo Elegy (1999), a perverse collaboration between the aforementioned Ian Kerkhof and Suzuki Akihiro. Popular Dutch actor Tom Hoffman plays a seedy gangster who falls hard for a beautiful Asian woman (Mai Hoshino) while trying to outrun a yakuza gang. Bullets fly, but the best tangling takes place between Hoffman and Hoshino, who reconcile their international differences by experimenting with kinky sex shot in a gritty documentary style.
