A Tribute to a True Icon of Skin

Nominated for five Golden Globes and the proud owner of two of the finest golden globes ever to grace Jiggle TV, pin-up queen and celebrated actress Farrah Fawcett finally succumbed to cancer today and Mr Skin is in mourning.

In the 1970s, Farrah started popping eyes with her popping nipples, which seemed about to burst out of whatever slinky top she was wearing during her reign on the original Charlie's Angels TV series.

Then those same ever-stiff nips turned her iconic picture into one of the best-selling pinup posters in history.

Jiggle TV Icon Fights Cancer

After Farrah Fawcett has treated for rectal cancer over the past three years, the press is now reporting that the disease has spread to her liver.

Mr Skin has high hopes that he spunky and sexy 62 year-old star, who recently dismissed reports she is in serious condition, can overcome this illness.

Farrah has had a special place in America’s heart since she appeared as Jill Munroe on Charlie’s Angels and had her famous nip-slip in the 1976 episode “Angels in Chains.”

From the moment it first jiggled onto the boob tube, Charlie’s Angels bedazzled viewers with its nonstop barrage of sexy starlets in all their braless mid-’70s splendor.

Iconic angel Farrah Fawcett, however, pushed the legendary series over the top(less) by letting her prison blouse flop open in the classic undercover(ed)-behind-bars episode, “Angels in Chains.”

It first aired on this date in 1976.

Television maven Aaron Spelling (Charlie’s Angels, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210) bewitched audiences in a whole new way with Charmed, the saga of three sorceress sisters that lit up the boob tube for the first date in 1998.

The show’s heroines were the magical Halliwell siblings portrayed by a trio of the sexiest stunners to ever beguile primetime: Shannen Doherty (Prudence), Alyssa Milano (Phoebe), and Holly Marie Combs (Piper). At the end of the third season, Shannen split and was replaced by Rose McGowan (as Paige Halliwell).

Tied in with the premiere of her destined-to-be-legendary ABC series Charlie’s Angels, wide-grinned, thick-nippled Farrah Fawcett posed for a swimsuit poster that set all manner of sales records from the moment it hit stores -- which occurred on this date in 1976.

Before Charlie’s Angels took flight, Texas-native Farrah appeared in numerous TV commercials, including a popular Wella Balsam shampoo ad in springtime ’76.

That’s when the novelty company Pro Arts Inc. contacted Farrah’s agent with the idea of doing a poster.

After a sexplosively successful debut season, Charlie’s Angels returned to TV minus America’s #1 poster girl, Farrah Fawcett, but with a blonde beauty who made an immediate impact in her place. Season two premiered on this date in 1977.

Cheryl Ladd was a model, actress, and singer whose most intriguing early career credit was providing lead vocals for the TV cartoon band Josie and the Pussycats.

Marilyn Chambers went from being the smiling woman on the cover of the Ivory Soap box to getting a face full of soapy scum in the seminal seventies porno flick Behind the Green Door (1972). Five years later, Chambers appeared in Canadian sci-fi auteur David Cronenberg's vampire flick Rabid (1977), where she sucks down a different type of body fluid.

Baltimore's favorite son John Waters' early work, especially his undisputed masterpiece Pink Flamingos (1972), was enormously influential in the development of underground cinema, midnight movie culture, and generally bad taste in entertainment. Waters shocked the world in the 90s when he came out as a gay man and today he continues to make twisted movies. And I love him for it.

Chicago native Jack Nitzsche died in 2000, but not before filling out an incredibly impressive resume. He famously worked and had subsequent falling-outs with Phil Spector and Neil Young in the 60s and 70s, but I especially appreciate the soundtracks he produced for skinematic classics like Performance (1970), Hardcore (1979), Cruising (1980) Personal Best (1982), 9 ½ Weeks (1986) and The Hot Spot (1990). Jack, we need you back!

One of Hollywood's most enduring talents, Jack Nicholson's career is the stuff of legend. But if anyone needs a reminder why we all a debt of gratitude to the 71-year old Lakers fanatic who famously banged Lara Flynn Boyle from 1999 to 2001, here are a few: He made out with a naked Lia Beldam before she turned into a naked Billie Gibson in The Shining (1980); he plowed his face into Jessica Lange's muff in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981); and he got into a hot tub with a bare Kathy Bates in About Schmidt (2002).

But it was "Rhinestone Cowboy" that inspired Porky's director Bob Clark's 1984 flop Rhinestone starring Sylvester Stallone and country star/act-chest Dolly Parton.

We lost Spelling in 2006, but he will always have a place of honor in the hallowed halls of skinstory.
