It was a case of like mother, like daughter in London on Sunday when, like her mother, hot TV presenter Paula Yates, before her, pretty Peaches Geldof accidentally overdosed on drugs at her home.
Peaches, along with her similarly named sisters Fifi and Pixie, is the daughter of do-gooder/Boomtown Rat Sir Bob Geldof. But it was Boomtown Brat Peaches who was receiving "Live Aid" last weekend! The Sun quotes a source as saying:
“Peaches could not breathe for several minutes after suffering a respiratory arrest. Her friend had to give chest pumps and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If she had not received this she could have died or she could have suffered brain damage.
"Peaches had gone into respiratory arrest, in which a patient's breathing stops but the heart doesn't. Peaches refused to go to the hospital with the emergency crew, because she was afraid her father would find out about the drug overdose.
"When she came to she started mouthing off and told the ambulance crew, ‘You have to respect my privacy'. She then told them to get out. And she refused to go hospital to have further treatment because she was worried about it getting out.”
We wish Peaches a speedy recovery and hope that she "gets out" on screen very soon. And for a few other beauteous blondes who dabbled with drugs and didn't end up as lucky as Peaches Geldof, have a click and peek at the next page.
more2500 years ago, Plato's teacher Socrates was taken from the world when authorities forced the philosopher to drink poison after they convicted him of corrupting the youth of Athens. Likewise, just nine years ago today, Dana Plato, the actress who bore the name of the great man's favorite student, was taken from us too soon when she died of an overdose.
Dana was a star at age 15 when she got the role of Kimberly on the hit NBC sitcom Diff'rent Strokes. But after she got pregnant and was subsequently fired, her career stalled. In 1989 she posed naked in Playboy and was arrested two years later for armed robbery. Later, Dana got roles in low-budget exploitation and softcore movies, including Different Strokes: The Story of Jack and Jill...and Jill (1997), in which she plays a lesbian who helps Landon Hall experience a topless sexual awakening. After the movie, Dana reported that she was a lesbian in real life, but later retracted the statement. Apparently her sexual tastes, like her career, ran the gamut. She died tragically the next year, right after an interview on The Howard Stern Show.
Before he drank his hemlock, Socrates proclaimed that he was happy to die before succumbing to the ravages of old age. Though Dana surely left us far too soon, no one can deny that she left us as a babe in her prime.
