‘Oldboy’ is Coming to the Small Screen

Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s celebrated film Oldboy, which just marked its twentieth anniversary last year, is being turned into a mini-series. The announcement was made just days after his newest television endeavor, the series adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s The Sympathizer starring Robert Downey Jr, premiered on HBO.

There are few fans of skin-ema are not familiar with Park’s 2003 revenge masterpiece, which not only doesn’t skimp on the nudity, it makes it integral to the plot, which means the chance of the series containing lots of skin is almost a given.

Even those who haven’t seen it have probably at least watched the 2013 Spike Lee remake starring Elizabeth Olsen nude, baring almost everything during a steamy (yet ultimately disturbing) sex scene with fellow Marvel star Josh Brolin.

This isn’t the first of Park’s projects to make the move to television. In 2020, TNT launched a series version of Snowpiercer, a film he produced in 2013. While the original didn’t have its female stars going nude, the show actually contained the naked buns of both Mickey Sumner and Susan Park.
